Adult Usual dose: 1-2 g once daily or in 2 divided doses. Uncomplicated lower UTI (cystitis) 1-2 g/day as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. Other UTI 2 g/day in 2 divided doses. Skin & soft tissue infections 1 g/day as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. Upper & lower resp tract infections Mild: 1 g/day in 2 divided doses. Moderate to severe: 1-2 g/day in 2 divided doses. Pharyngitis & tonsillitis due to Group A β-hemolytic Streptococcus 1 g/day in 2 divided doses, for 10 days. Dry syrChildn w/ 4.5-9.1 kg ½ tsp twice daily, 9.1-13.6 kg 1 tsp twice daily, 13.6-18.2 kg 1½ tsp twice daily, 18.2-22.7 kg 2 tsp twice daily, 22.7-27.3 kg 2½ tsp twice daily. Forte dry syrChildn w/ 9.1-13.6 kg ½ tsp twice daily, 13.6-18.2 kg ¾ tsp twice daily, 18.2-22.7 kg 1 tsp twice daily, 22.7-27.3 kg 1¼ tsp twice daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Special Precautions
Known allergy to penicillin & cephalosporins. Kidney dysfunction, colitis. May result as false +ve in Coombs' test & urinary test using Benedict's or Fehling's soln. Prolonged use. Pregnancy & lactation. Premature infants.
